9 Reasons to Drink Green Tea Daily

Have you been wondering “what’s all the fuss about green tea?” Now you can stop wondering and start drinking…green tea, that is. This flavorful beverage offers many health benefits to anyone who drinks it regularly. Green tea contains a potent plant nutrient known as epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG, for short. But don’t fret, you don’t have to keep track of its chemical name to reap the health benefits. Here are 9 reasons to start drinking green tea or continue drinking it if you’re already hooked.

1. Green tea is a superb fat fighter. Its active ingredient, EGCG, increases the rate at which fat is burned in your body.

2. It targets belly fat. Research at Tufts University indicates that EGCG in green tea, like other catechins, activate fat-burning genes in the abdomen to speed weight loss by 77 percent.

3. It keeps energy stable by balancing blood sugar levels. EGCG improves insulin use in the body to prevent blood sugar spikes and crashes that can result in fatigue, irritability, and cravings for unhealthy foods.

4. Research shows it may be helpful against lung cancer. In Study published in Cancer Prevention Research, EGCG was found to suppress lung cancer cell growth.
5. It may halt colorectal cancer. In numerous other studies, EGCG appears to inhibit colorectal cancers.

6. In research it appears to cause prostate cancer cells to commit suicide. A March 2010 study in Cancer Science indicated that EGCG aids the body by causing prostate cancer cells to commit suicide.

7. It may prevent skin damage and wrinkling. EGCG appears to be 200 times more powerful than vitamin E at destroying skin-damaging free radicals. Free radicals react with healthy cells in the body, causing damage so lessening their numbers may help reduce wrinkling and other signs of aging.

8. It contains a potent antioxidant that kills free radicals. Because it is a potent antioxidant it can positively impact a lot more than skin cells. Free radicals are increasingly linked to many serious chronic illnesses like arthritis, diabetes, and cancer.

9. It tastes good. If you’re not wild about the flavor, try a few different kinds. Try it iced or hot. Add some of the natural herb stevia to sweeten it if you want a sweeter drink. I wasn’t crazy about green tea the first few times I tried it, but now I love it with a fresh squeeze of lemon and a few drops of stevia over ice–et voila! Green tea lemonade. Mmmmm.
Reap the Rewards

Add one or two teaspoons of green tea leaves to a cup of boiling water, preferably in a tea strainer. Let steep for five minutes. Pour over ice if you prefer a cold beverage. Most experts recommend three cups daily. And, don’t worry it contains a lot less caffeine than coffee or black tea.

Drinking water before meals helps weight loss

NEW YORK: Drinking two glasses of water before each meal may help you lose weight, according to a new study presented Monday at the annual meeting of the American Chemical Society in Boston.
Obese dieters who drank two 8-ounce glasses of water before breakfast, lunch and dinner lost five pounds more than dieters who didn’t increase their water intake. Those who drank more water also kept more of the weight off after a year, said Brenda Davy, an associate professor at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.
The study included only middle-aged and older adults between the ages of 55 and 75 who were on diet – 1,200 calories per day for women and 1,500 calories per day for men. Half of the people were told to drink 16 ounces of water before every meal. After three months, the dieters who drank water had lost an average of about 15.5 pounds, while those who didn’t lost just 11 pounds.

Skipping Breakfast bad for teeth

Kids who skip breakfast have a more than 250 percent increased risk for developing tooth decay, according to a study of more than 4,000 children aged 2 through 5 years published in the January 2004 Journal of the American Dental Association. This dramatic effect was demonstrated in affluent families across America. Even those who ate sugary, junk food cereal for breakfast (not what I would suggest!) were far less likely to develop cavities than those who skipped breakfast entirely.
In our rushed modern lifestyle, many children miss out on breakfast, leaving their bodies hungry even when they are not aware of it.
We’ve known for a while that eating breakfast has many health benefits, including better school performance and a lower risk of obesity. And teens who skip breakfast tend to smoke more, weight more, and drink more. Now we know that eating breakfast can protect the teeth as well.
In addition, children in this study who ate five servings a day of fruits and vegetables had dramatically healthier teeth than their peers. What and when we eat can help build healthy smiles.

How Hair Grows

How Hair Grows

How Hair Grows

How Hair GrowsThink back to your childhood. Now focus on your preadolescent hair, It was probably more vibrant, shinier, fuller, and either lighter or brighter in color than your natural hair is now. There are a few reasons for this.
During childhood, we have more hair in the growth stage than at any other time, giving us plenty of volume. At this time in your life, the sebaceous glands are working at the peak of their efficiency, which gives strands a high gloss. Hair pigment hasn’t started to darken, so your hair color is vibrant, and you probably aren’t yet messing around with hair-changing chemical processes, or using heat appliances- all of which can rough up strands’ cuticles or strip them away entirely, leaving hair dull and brittle.

Teens and 20s
How Hair Grows

During your young adult years, hair slowly begins changing from its childhood state. Strands may become coarser, growth may slow.
Just a bit, color grows progressively darker, and the sebaceous activity for most of us goes on overdrive, pumping out oil at a furious rate. The teens and early 20s are a time for experimentation- and rightly so: how else are you going to find out what works for you and what doesn’t? Most of you have strong. Slightly oily and can afford to rough it up a bit with the latest color or texture trends. In beauty, as in life, there are no absolutes, and if your happen to be born with fragile hair or sensitive hair, take it easy.

Your 30s, 40s, and 50s

By the time you’ve reached your 30s, your hair has reached a plateau- the sebum is being produced at a more manageable pace and you have settled into your looks and accepted your hair type. Your strands have reached their darkest shade and the biggest surprise awaiting you is probably the appearance of grey.
Blondes, redheads, and light brunettes are more likely to go grey, while deep brunettes have a better chance of going white.
How Hair GrowsOf course, when you go grey depends on your genetic makeup – if you are father and mother didn’t see grey until they were 95, then you probably can expect the same, if they both went grey in their 20, you’ll probably be grey by the time you hit 35. The 30s and 40s, however, are a kind of “human average age” for this rite of passage. And while we’re on the subject of grey, keep in mind that grey hair do not mean your strands are no longer healthy. It simply means your cortex no longer containsmelanin. Another piece of information: grey hair often has a wirier texture than pigmented hair, so don’t be alarmed if these uncolored strands spring away from your head at strange angles.

YOUR HAIR AND THE CHANGE
You probably know menopause is that time when your ovaries stop producing oestrogen. Menopause can occur at any time during your adult years, but most commonly happens during your late 40s to mid-50s. Yet regardless of when it happens, menopause signals the end of your reproductive years, meaning no more to this, including not having to worry about birth control and never suffering from menstrual cramps again. Menopause is not, however, so fabulous for your hair. That’s because oestrogen protects you against hair loss; without oestrogen, your locks may grow noticeably thinner. For those of you, who aren’t near menopause, ask you mothers, aunts, grandmothers, or post-menopausal friends about how their mane altered after “the change”; most will admit their hair has not only frown a little (or a lot) thinner, but also finer in texture.
More bad news. For those of you genetically predisposed toward female-pattern hair loss, menopause is when you’ll learn whether or not you’re going to be affected-this also has to do with the sudden lack of hair-helping oestrogen. Some women find hormone replacement therapy protects them near- totally or partially from all kinds of post-menopausal hair loss. However, hormone replacement therapy has been linked with breast, endometrial, and liver cancers; discuss the risks with your doctor.

Your 60s and beyond

How Hair GrowsBy now you may be sporting quite a head of grey-or even white- hair, Sebum production has slowed considerably and your hair may grow drier and less in need of shampooing (and more in need of conditioning). Most humans experience thinning hair with age. By thinning, I don’t mean obvious balding- although if you are prone to that, now’s the time it will start happening. I simply mean that you will have less hair than you did in your youth. That’s because as we age, our hair spends less time in anagen, or growth, stage, and more time in the catagen (transition) and the telogen (resting) stages. At this point, there should be no great hair surprises for you. Instead, with each decade expect a gradual decrease in sebum production and a gradual increase in graying and thinning.

How to Handle Brain Tumor::Health

How to Handle Brain Tumor::Health

How to Handle Brain Tumor::Health
Tumor in brain is a complicated problem, so its handling requires manager team consisting of several expert-usually led by a neurosurgeon, and will involve a neurologist, radiologist, anesthesiologist-neurological, oncology and radiotherapy. Although no exact cause of the underlying disease of the brain tumor, but suspected there are several risk factors, including:

1. Brain tumors are more developed in men.

2. There is a history of cancer in the family.

3. The existence of exposure to radiation, chemicals such as formaldehyde, vinyl chloride and acrylonitrile.

4. Possible influence of cell phone usage.

Until now, the certainty of diagnosis of cancer may take several years, fortunately this time the disease can be overcome with more sophisticated techniques and powerful than ever before.

Dr Keith Goh, Consultant at the International Neuro Neurosurgery Associates, Novena Medical Centre, Singapore explained, the main step and the most important for the treatment of brain tumor is neurosurgery. Surgery’s goal is to remove the tumor cells as much as possible and ensure the healthy surrounding brain tissue remains intact. There are a lot of technologies offered by the surgeons, which makes the surgery more safely, accurately and with fewer complications than ever before. For example, now the International Neuro Associates, Novena Medical Centre, Singapore, using the operating system of computerized image-guidance (computerised image-guidance operating systems / IGS), which is how it works similar to the GPS system. This tool allows to point right at the spot location of the tumor, and make a small hole for the key hole for the surgeries. Sometimes, neuro-endoscopy may be an option with direct vision into the brain and remove the tumor.

Healthy Diets For Pregnant Women

Despite from happiness, having positive tested for pregnancy, a woman must be observant to watch food intakes. Dietary choices during pregnancy affect the health of the fetus until the birth and it grows to be an adult.

The Health-Care Law Provisions Taking Effect in 2011

The Health-Care Law Provisions Taking Effect in 2011

Parts of the uncatchily named Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, aka the health-care overhaul law, began to kick in earlier this year. But in 2011, other provisions will roll out — some as soon as January 1.

The Kaiser Family Foundation counts 21 provisions taking effect next year. Among them:

* The requirement that the proportion of premium dollars spent on medical care must amount to at least 80% for small business plans and 85% for large group plans will kick in. The so-called medical loss ratio was the subject of discussion and lobbying this year as insurers jockeyed to meet the requirements — and to avoid paying consumers rebates if they don’t.
* It’s the beginning of the end for the Medicare prescription-drug “doughnut hole.” Next year drug makers will provide a 50% discount on brand-name medications that fall into that coverage gap. Federal subsidies for generics will also begin.
* For Medicare beneficiaries, there will be no cost-sharing for certain preventive health services that receive an A or B rating from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. Here’s where you can find the USPSTF’s recommendations.
* You won’t be able to pay for OTC drugs out of your flexible spending account, unless those drugs have been prescribed by a physician. (There are some exceptions.) We wrote recently about the change and how to figure out what’s eligible. The same applies to health reimbursement accounts.
* Calorie counts and other nutritional information will be posted on chain-restaurant menus and on food sold via vending machines.

The health-care overhaul law’s major provisions — such as the mandate that almost everyone purchase insurance, the requirement that insurers accept all comers and the establishment of state-based insurance exchanges — don’t take effect until 2014. Here’s the Obama administration’s own timeline on the implementation of the law.

How To Whiten Your Teeth At Home Properly?

How To Whiten Your Teeth At Home Properly? at home teeth whitening generalWhitening your teeth at home is the best way to maintain a Hollywood smile. Stained teeth may easily ruin your beautiful smile and teeth stains can be very embarrassing and difficult to remove if not treated in time. Teeth discoloration may be caused by different factors but fortunately there are great whitening products that you can use at home to whiten your teeth effectively.
Nowadays there are many products that are specially developed to maintain the whiteness of your teeth such as – whitening toothpaste, whitening pens, gums, whitening strips and mouthwashes.

What causes tooth discoloration?

The natural aging process, some foods, bad habits like smoking, drinking alcohol, drinking too much soft drinks, poor oral hygiene, even some medications can cause tooth discolorations and stains. Drinking too much coffee, tea, red wine, smoking can easily stain your teeth if you don’t take a proper care of them. Even some medications can also affect the color of your teeth (antibiotics for example).
Once you get 40 you may notice that your teeth become darker and darker but it’s something natural and normal – simply due to the aging process. As we age the outer layer of enamel on the teeth gets worn away, revealing the yellow color of dentin. Smoking and eating certain foods (strawberries, blackberries for example ) usually stain only the surface of the teeth but with aging the staining and the discoloration may be more visible.
Another very common cause of teeth staining is poor oral hygiene. If you don’t take a proper care of your teeth it may cause yellow and green stains on your teeth due to bacteria or the build-up of fungus. Brushing and flossing your teeth is essential in order to keep your teeth healthy and good-looking.

Reducing Fat

Four Guidelines For Reducing Dietary Fat
START SMALL
You're not going on a diet. Rather, you're changing the way you eat for the rest of your life. So there's no need to cut out dietary fat all at once. You might start by switching to milk instead of cream in your coffee, then switching to low-fat mayonnaise on your sandwiches and so on.

EAT WHAT YOU LIKE
If you already enjoy certain low-fat foods, make them staples of your diet. Make a list of your favorite high-fat foods, then find a way to substitute low-fat versions for some of them.
KEEP TRACK OF YOUR FAT INTAKE
Buy a nutritional guide that lists the fat content of each food. Use it to calculate how many grams of fat you consume each day. The maximum number of grams of fat you can eat each day and still lose weight is determined by a variety of factors. A woman over 30 should probably consume no more than 20 percent of her calories in the form of fat, while a man over 30 can probably get away with up to 25 percent.
(One gram of fat equals about nine calories.)
MAKE SURE THAT THE WHOLE FAMILY ADOPTS HEALTHFUL EATING HABITS
If your spouse has an ice cream sundae for dessert, you probably won't feel satisfied with a pear. But if everyone in the family starts eating healthfully, there's less temptation.

Breast Massage

Breast Massage Reduces Breast Cancer Risk
By Beverly Smith
A recent study* of 4,700 women found that women who wore bras had an increased chance of acquiring breast cancer. It is very possible that the constant pressure that the bra puts on the breast is limiting the flow of toxins that need to be released, resulting in the increased cancer rate. Any more than a gentle amount of pressure can flatten the lymphatic vessel and stop the toxic flow from the breast.

The Study found the highest rate of breast cancer in those who wore bras 24 hours a day, and the lowest rate in those who never wore bras. The study suggested that women should wear their bra less than 12 hours a day.
* Singer, Sydney Ross. Dressed to Kill: The Link Between Breast Cancer and Bras, Garden City Park, NY: Avery Pub. Group, 1995
Self Care Breast Massage
Gentle breast massage will benefit all women and lessen the risk of breast cancer.
Gentle-to-moderate kneading, rubbing, and squeezing strokes with the hands are sufficient to induce increased lymph and blood flow to the breast.
How to do it?

The breast can be kneaded and squeezed by contracting the palm and fingers of the hand (somewhat like a handshake) or the breast can be rubbed and stroked using the palm and fingers of the hand using gentle-to-moderate pressure.
* Women's breasts vary considerably in texture and sensitivity to pressure. Therefore, gentle strokes should be for those who are sensitive or have softer breasts. Moderate pressure may be more effective for those with firmer-textured breasts.

Breast Massage
This procedure should be done at least twice a week. It can be done on bare skin, but you may find that using some vegetable oil may be more comfortable (do not use mineral-based or scented oils).
  • Step One: Use your fingers to gently smooth away from the nipple. These movements travel from the nipple and directly away using no more pressure than what you would apply to your eyelid. Any more pressure would flatten the lymphatic vessel and stop the flow of toxins and fluids. Also, make this stroke slow, not fast, for it to be effective.
  • Step Two: Gently massage the breast with a kneading-like motion, using lifting and pressing movements.
  • Step Three: Slowly and carefully use your hands to twist the breast in a clock-wise and counterclockwise direction, being careful not to put too much tension on the breast.
  • Step Four: Use both hands as shown to apply several, moderate pressure compressions to move out more pressure fluids.

Diet Tips: How To Eat Less

Today's installment of the diet plan is a dose of tips I've learned that make it a bit easier to eat less without feeling hungry. So, without further delay, here are my collected tips. Feel free to add your own in the comments.

  1. Eat less. More often. Rather than eating large meals, chop up your eating into smaller portions throughout the day. I found myself eating 3 meals most days and having a snack around 3pm as well as another in the evening. That was enough to keep me from feeling hungry while still eating less in total.
  2. Don't eat right before going to bed. I've read this numerous times and don't get why it works, but it does. I set a limit of 3 hours. So I planned to go to bed at midnight, I wouldn't eat past 9pm.
  3. Brush your teeth early. For whatever reason, I won't eat when my teeth still feel clean. By brushing them several hours before bed, it was easier to accomplish #2.
  4. Kick the sugar habit. If you drink sugared soft drinks (I used to be a Mt. Dew and Coke fan), replace them either with their diet counterparts or water. This can make a very, very big difference.
  5. Eat vegetables before the main course. Whenever possible, I'd make sure to have an ample serving of a vegetable (you get very few calories for the amount you eat) before eating the denser main course--often a meat or fish. You'll need less of the dense stuff to be happy.
  6. Update your spreadsheet daily. Keeping a running count will help you ration out the rest of your daily calorie allowance, which we'll talk about tomorrow.
  7. Get used to leftovers. When you eat out, expect to take some of your meal home. If you eat standard restaurant portions, you'll almost certainly overeat.
  8. Shop with calories in mind. When you're at the grocery store, spends some extra time reading the labels and nutritional information. You'll probably end up changing your shopping habits along the way. You'd be surprised by the how widely the calorie counts in various granola bars varies, for example.
  9. Slow down! When you eat fast, you end up ingesting more food before you body has a chance to figure out that it's satisfied (not full).
  10. Drink more water during the day. This is fairly generic advice, but definitely seems to help.
  11. Trick yourself with gum. Sometimes we eat out of habit or because it just feels good to get some flavor in your mouth and chew for a while. Find yourself some sugar-free chewing gum and use it when the urge strikes.
  12. Reduce the amount of breads, chips, crackers, and salty snacks you eat. A lot of starchy and/or salty food make you want to eat and drink even more. This comes straight out of Atkins diet culture.
There are probably a few things I've forgotten that I'll remember after posting this. If so, I'll add 'em on later. Meanwhile, drop your suggestions below.

Tomorrow we'll get back to the spreadsheet and talk about setting goals.

Slimming after Pregnancy

Slimming after Pregnancy. The first thing that draws attention to a woman after childbirth – it’s her figure. The woman throws off up to 6 kilograms of his weight, as soon give birth to a child, but 3 pounds of fat gained during pregnancy, remains.

Often, many women begin to gain weight rapidly after birth. This is due to changes in the number of hormones and nutrition. The most important thing – proper nutrition and daily exercise.

Sit down immediately after giving birth to the very strict diet can not in any case! You are breastfeeding, and all the most useful substances are transmitted to your child through breast milk.

While you are breastfeeding, watch your diet. Try to eat as often as possible. Namely, four – six times a day. The ration your food must include dairy products. Milk, yogurt, yogurt drink up to 0.5 liters per day. Do not forget cheese. Meat and vegetables are needed for the vital force, both you and your child. Eggs and butter should also be included in your daily ration of food.

If during pregnancy you take vitamins – take them further. Drink plenty of fluids, two to three liters a day. The ideal situation would be liquid foods (soups).

Do not eat products such as: honey, citrus fruits, canned products, various pickles and chocolate. It is strictly forbidden to drink alcohol and smoke!

The Importance of Vitamins in Your Diet

What are vitamins and why are they useful?

Vitamins in the body are essential part of any diet and should be considered at all times when attempting to maintained a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Often in hectic, busy routines we can forge the importance of keeping a balanced, healthy diet which can cause us to not get all of the vitamins we need on a daily basis.

Many vitamins that are absorbed by the body are lost to support the everyday functions of the body. Because of this, it is important to ‘top up’ these levels so that you have all of the building blocks of growth and repair in your body at all times.

Where are vitamins found?

We gain most of our vitamins through the food and drink we eat, but we can also obtain vitamins in supplement form. Some examples would be a high level of vitamins C found in oranges and various other citrus fruits.

Vegetables are also a good source of naturally occuring vitamins, which is why it pays to have a varied diet to allow for a wide range of nutrients to be absorbed by the body.

How can i get more vitamins into my daily routine?

Forward planning your food intake is a good place to start – Think about adding some mixed dried fruit to your cereal in the morning, or snack on some cherry tomatoes during the day as a light snack.

You could also take vitamin supplements as part of your daily routine to ensure your body has all that it needs. An online supplements retailer or your local health store is a good place to start.

Whatever you do in your daily routine, ensure you prioritise the importance of a balanced diet, ensuring your heart and organs get all of the nutritional compounds it needs.

Effects Of Smoking

As a matter of fact, we all know about the ill-effects of cigarette smoke and tobacco use but a smoker really is helpless in front of this menacing addiction. When he has to, he ‘will’ smoke; the underlying psychology is ‘A fag allows a man’. The ‘Will’ is associated with the short term effects. Let us see the quick-effects of a cigarette smoke that makes a man physically and mentally dependent on it. These immediate effects encourage a smoker to take a fag;

* Nervous system and brain activities are quickened for few minutes by the stimulation caused by smoke.
* One cigarette quickly increases blood pressure and heart beat rate. At the same time blood flow to the body’s end points is reduced giving numbness to the areas like fingers and toes.
* Hunger, taste and olfactory senses are weakened.
* Dizziness is also experienced in many cases.

While the smokers enjoy the short term effects, what about the long-term affects which, most of the time, are irreversible? Smoke actually increases the risk of suffering from life-threatening diseases even if a person quits in the later years of his life. Of course, quitting would at least help to diminish the evil effects of tobacco. Smoking has a permanent effect on the following parts of a human body even if you have smoked for only five years;

* Lungs,
* Heart,
* Eyes,
* Throat,
* Urinary tract,
* Sex organs,
* Women’s fertility zone,
* Men’s sperm production,
* Digestive organs,
* Bones and joints,
* Skin

The intensity of the irreversible effects of smoke depends on certain factors;

* The quantity of cigarette smoke per day;
* How old was he when he started smoking;
* Number of years a person has smoked;
* Level of resistance to the tobacco chemicals;

It is very hard to stop smoking immediately, so it needs to be done in systematic manner. You can decrease quantiy slowly or can find alternatives like chewing gum or electronic cigarettes. Make sure you read Electronic Cigarette Review before you purchase any.

How To Have a Perfect Shape?

Achieving a perfect figure comes from your determination. Just admit that everybody cannot have great body shape like Madonna or Britney Spears but each one of you can exploit your capabilities achieve your aim. Here are some diet tips to get your body into shape: 1. First and foremost thing to have a perfect shape is to sleep well. Research has proved that less sleep directly affects your health. For getting a good sleep you can have a glass of warm milk, bananas, honey, almonds or potatoes. These things would help you get a sound sleep. 2. Teen Care

The clothes you wear, the color of your room, the food that you eat, friends you have, where you go are some of the things which have been under your parents control till you attain the teen age. Every kid will be so happy to answer all these questions but not when they reach the teen age. Often they tend to fight a lot with their parents which might not be a good sign to maintain the relationship.

A teen age is the one where one develops his/her own identity. They tend to have and form their opinions. The biological activities begin in their body. They prepare them for the adulthood. Most problems come when your parents try not to adjust with your new behavior. You know that you have become new “YOU”. But your parents still see you as a kid. Teens become angry that parents do not respect their privacy and opinions. Parents feel angry that children do not obey them anymore. They forget the fact that the children are no more children and have transformed into adults. Understanding is the shortest distance between two people.

Understanding each others thought is a long process. It may take several years. The whole new generation is techy very much and the older generation is not able to cope up with the speed. In most cases, parents must sacrifice as it is the children who are going to lead their life. Parents can be mentors but not a strict officer. If parents can behave as good friends to their children while they reach the teen age, there can be many problems avoided.

Parents must teach on how to differentiate between the good and bad. One must not scold if the children choose the wrong way for the first time. Parents must educate them and a friendly relation is the key solution for all such teen problems.
